Lung cancer increasing in women, especially in lower socio-economic groups

Lung cancer is increasing in women while rates in men are declining, according to new findings by the Welsh Cancer Intelligence and Surveillance Unit (WCISU).

Rates in women are increasing most rapidly in lower socioeconomic groups. The findings are published in a new publication, Cancer incidence in Wales, 2001-2016. It is thought that the differing trends in lung cancer incidence between men and women are linked to different smoking patterns between the sexes historically.
