About the Wider Determinants of Health Unit

The wider determinants of health unit works to influence the social, economic and environmental factors to improve health, well-being and reduce inequalities. These include money and resources, our level of education and skills, availability of good work, the quality and security of our housing, and our surroundings.

By 2030 we want the people of Wales to have a better and more equal chance of living a fulfilling life, free from preventable ill health.

We work to influence policy and practice, locally and nationally to improve health and reduce inequalities in health and well-being, informed by the best available evidence.

The Wider Determinants of Health Unit is a part of the Health and Wellbeing Directorate of Public Health Wales and works closely with others across Public Health Wales and the wider public health system.
